Arsenal’s Philip Roberts, who is currently on loan with Scottish side Inverness Caledonian Thistle, missed his side’s fifth penalty in the game against Hearts yesterday allowing the Edinburgh side to progress to the final of the Scottish Communities League Cup. Hearts won 5-4 on penalties.
Speaking about the penalty miss, Hearts keeper Jamie McDonald said that he employed tactics he has seen Manchester City’s Joe Hart use to put players off and he believes it worked as Roberts blazed the ball over the bar.
McDonald said
“I wasn’t shouting anything in particular – just screaming.
“I saw Joe Hart do it once and thought I would give it a bash.
“I didn’t have much luck before then so why not try something different?
“I didn’t save one today so I was actually quite gutted but thankfully we’ve come through.
“Everybody came to me at the end, even though I hadn’t done anything.
“It was nice because they’re usually shouting at me.”

Roberts has been on loan with Caley Thistle since the end of August and his loan deal was renewed at the beginning of December. The 18 year old centre forward will stay on loan until the end of the season.
